Eight Brocades, or the Eight Pieces of Colourful Silk, is an ancient Chinese Chi Kung (Qi-Gong) treasure, derived from The Five Animal's Frolics (introduced by Hua Tor, 210-270 A.D., a Chinese medical sage in the Han Dynasty) and The Changing Tendon Sutra (introduced by Da-Mo, 481-557 A.D., an Indian Buddhist monk who brought Zen Meditation to China during the Pei Wei Dynasty).
It consists originally of eight movements, or more specifically, eight postures. As time passes, needs and purposes of practicing change, and so the forms change as well. The form that we will be practicing consists of 16 movements and has, embedded within it, the Bone Marrow Cleansing Sutra and the Tendons Changing Sutra. It is a much refined and well arranged sequence to suit the vast majority of people. It was first taught in the Tang Dynasty (617-983 A.D.) by Buddhist monks of the Zen school. By practicing Qi Gong Eight Brocades, you relax your body, relieve stress, enhance blood and energy circulation, align body structures and build up muscle strength so you can live a healthy and joyful life with harmony of body and mind.
